Happy 6th Birthday to Simon & Sophie!

source
We shamelessly celebrated Simon & Sophies's 6th birthday tonight.
We had ice cream and candles.
(Mr. R. and I might have had brownies underneath our ice cream as well.)
They stole our hearts from the minute we saw them posted on craigslist five years ago.
(We adopted them a few weeks after their 1st birthday.)
They have taught us patience, to not EVER turn your back on a plate of food, the art of sleeping anywhere and in any position, how to consider something other than ourselves, and what it truly means to love unconditionally.
They have made our life always exciting and beyond entertaining!
We cannot imagine a day without them.
Happy Birthday Pups!

Rockstar...

Right now,
She is my number one fan.
She lights up when I enter a room.
She knows my voice, my smell and my touch.
She makes me feel like a rockstar.

Happy Independence Day!

From our little firecracker!

I love the 4th. The red, white, and blue decorations, the smell of charcoal BBQ, the fireworks in downtown St. Augustine, sparklers in our backyard, grilled hotdogs with mustard (no ketchup!), celebrating our independance with family and friends.

We invited my grandparents and psuedo grandparents (Hi Faye & Cal!) over for a BBQ lunch today. We promised nothing fancy and prayed Piper would nap so we could get the food prepped and the table set.

The Menu:
John McCain's Ribs (cooked first in the crockpot then grilled) with the Neely's BBQ sauce
Hamburger & Hotdogs
AND

We aren't going downtown to see the fireworks this year. Piper has a 7:00 PM bedtime and we are not messing with the schedule. So instead Mr. R. and I are opting for Macy's Fireworks Special on NBC and leftover ribs & cobbler.
Happy 4th from the Republicans!

Photos of food from google images. I couldn't get my act together with the camera today.

Sunday Perfection

Someone rolled over on her playmat today.
Church was amazing and very needed.
Mr. R. made dinner.
I was able to go to the grocery store, workout, and take a long uninterrupted shower.
Today was absolutely perfect...

#330 (stolen from 1,000 Awesome Things)

On the list of 1,000 Awesome Things (a list of everyday experiences that make life just a little more sunshiny and optimistic) number #330 refers to the CLEAN BABY SMELL.
There is seriously nothing like it. It's  mix of Johnson and Johnson's no more tears shampoo, lavender bathtime time suds, and Bert's Bees buttermilk lotion. Combine that sweet smell with a fuzzy haired baby who is ready to snuggle and get rocked to sleep and you have the highlight of my Saturday night.

Bouncy trouncy flouncy pouncy, fun fun fun fun fun...

Someone is really enjoying her bouncy seat. I love that she is discovering her hands and that she can control them. You can see her little wheels turning as she tries to touch the butterflies.

P.S. Can you name that quote?
The most wonderful thing about tiggers is I'm the only one!" -Tigger (from Winnie the Poo)

Ring my bell!

I have to admit that song gets me everytime. If it ever comes on the radio while driving you will defently get to hear my beautiful singing voice (lots of sarcasm here) and my sweet 70s dance moves. But I digress...

The real reason for the post is to talk about my new love/hate relationship with the kettlebell. One of the things I didn't realize about my new role in post pregnancy mommyhood is that even when you return to your pre-baby weight not everything goes back to where it should.

I actually weigh less now than I did before getting pregnant, but my hips are wider, my muscles are flabbier, and my abs well they are now hidden under a layer of soft adipose tissue. I love Pip very very much, but I am not too happy with what she did to my hard earned runners body. I am back to running 2-3 days a week averaging 3 - 3.5 miles a run, but running doesn't do a whole lot for my arms and or lower abs. Hence my new relationship.

Blog friends, meet the kettlebell.

It shows no remorse for the pain it gives me. It takes names. It wipes the floor with my triceps and laughs at the face of anguish I make while squatting... just one more time.

To be honest the workout is quite awesome. I sweat more than I have in a long time and it really does require me to push past what I think I can do. Each class is a challenge and I walk out feeling accomplished even if I still can't do a cross over push up.

I am hoping to spend the rest of my summer making nice with kettlebell and hopefully by the time labor day rolls around I will have the biceps to prove it was all worth it.
